Why this tour?
This is not like other Oxford walking tours. If you’re bored of the Bodleian, sick of the Sheldonian and tired of the towers… then this is the tour for you!
Oxford is famed for its divide between Town and Gown. If the University-dominated city centre is Gown, then this tour is very proudly Town.
We want to help you scratch beneath the surface of Oxford, whether you’re visiting for the first time or have lived here for decades!
The name isn’t accidental - this really is an Undiscovered Oxford.
Jericho
Our tour explores Jericho, a neighbourhood just a few minutes north of the city centre. Today it’s one of the most desirable areas in the country. But 150 years ago it was smoky, noisy, smelly and relentlessly productive.
You’ll hear stories of kings, politicians and rock stars - but our real focus will be on the factory workers, printers, publishers and hospital staff who worked, lived and died on these streets.
The tour
Your guide for this two hour walking tour is Rob, who has lived in Oxford for over 25 years.
Rob’s a storyteller, not an historian. You won’t be bombarded with long lists of dates - instead, we’ll go down rabbit holes and explore the personal stories that have helped shape Jericho’s community.
Practical stuff
Tours run most Thursdays (4pm) and Sundays (10.30am).
Dates and times for upcoming tours can be found on our booking page. Group size is strictly limited so booking is essential.
We meet just a few minutes’ walk from the Ashmolean Museum and finish on Walton Street in the heart of Jericho, so you can explore the neighbourhood’s wide array of restaurants, cafes, shops and other small businesses.
Private tours (with flexible dates and times) are also available upon request.
Please visit our FAQ section to find out more.

Reviews
I’m Rob and I’ll be your guide for the Jericho Walking Tour!
I grew up in Cornwall in the southwest of England, but over 25 years ago I moved to Jericho - and Oxford has been my home ever since.
I’m not a trained historian; I simply love sharing stories. Undiscovered Oxford grew out of years spent exploring the city’s lesser-known history, particularly the industrial story of Jericho. What began as a personal fascination gradually became a carefully researched and thoughtfully designed walking tour.
Jericho is often overlooked in favour of Oxford’s colleges, yet its industrial past shaped the city in profound ways. My aim is to reveal that hidden layer - clearly, engagingly, and without overwhelming you with dates and detail.
Please have a look at the FAQ section below for some useful information on prices, booking and accessibility.
Whether you’re visiting Oxford for the first time or have lived here all your life, I hope you’ll leave having discovered something new!
